A full day of events are planned for July 4, bringing together history, family activities, and fireworks as residents and visitors gather to mark the occasion.
This year’s Fourth of July celebration in Concord will carry added significance as the city joins communities across the nation in commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States while also celebrating Concord’s 300th anniversary.
A Parade Through Downtown Concord
The day’s festivities are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with an Independence Day parade traveling along Main Street to the New Hampshire State House Lawn.
Organizers are promoting the parade as part of the city’s America 250 and Concord 300 celebrations. Local groups, bands, and community organizations are expected to participate as the parade makes its way through downtown Concord.
The parade will serve as the official kickoff to a day centered on celebrating both the nation’s history and Concord’s place within it.
Activities on the State House Lawn
Following the parade, activities will move to the State House Lawn beginning at 10 a.m.
The event is expected to feature live performances, family-friendly activities, and opportunities for residents and visitors to gather in the heart of the capital city. While organizers have not yet released a detailed entertainment schedule, the lawn celebration is being promoted as the central daytime event of the Fourth of July festivities.
The gathering is part of broader efforts to recognize the nation’s semiquincentennial, commonly referred to as America 250, while also honoring Concord’s three centuries of history.
A Look Back at Revolutionary History
History enthusiasts will also have an opportunity to explore New Hampshire’s Revolutionary War connections during a special open house hosted by the New Hampshire Historical Society.
Beginning at 11 a.m., the Historical Society plans to welcome visitors for guided exhibition tours and access to Revolutionary-era artifacts. According to reports from NHPR, the open house will include displays featuring two flags from the Second New Hampshire Continental Regiment, offering a rare glimpse into artifacts connected to the nation’s founding era.
The event provides an opportunity to connect the holiday’s celebrations with the history that inspired them more than two centuries ago.
Fireworks Return to Memorial Field
The celebration will conclude with Concord’s annual fireworks display at Memorial Field.
Festivities at Memorial Field are expected to begin during the evening with food vendors, music, and community activities before fireworks light up the sky after sunset. The display has long been a Fourth of July tradition in Concord and is expected to draw families from across the Capital Region.
For many attendees, the fireworks will provide a fitting end to a day that blends community celebration, local history, and national pride.
If there is rain, the firework show will be held the evening of July 5.
Celebrating Two Historic Milestones
While Independence Day is always a major event in Concord, this year’s celebration stands apart because it coincides with two historic anniversaries.
As the nation prepares to mark its 250th year and Concord celebrates its 300th anniversary, organizers hope the day’s events will give residents an opportunity to reflect on both the city’s history and its role as New Hampshire’s capital.
From the morning parade and historical exhibits to the evening fireworks, July 4 promises to be a day of celebration, remembrance, and community gathering in downtown Concord.
