The New Hampshire State Council on the Arts has granted Concord Hospital a $5,500 Arts in Health Grant.
To improve the mental health of hospital patients, Certified Music Practitioners (CMP) will perform live therapeutic music with prize money.
The grant was given based on the Hospital’s year-long experience employing therapeutic music to engage patients suffering from diseases such as delirium, dementia, substance abuse, or mental and behavioral health issues.
New Funding
The New Hampshire State Council on the Arts has granted Concord Hospital its seventeenth Arts in Health Grant and the seventh for live therapeutic music. The New Hampshire State Council on the Arts received funding from the Governor and State Legislature in addition to a National Endowment for the Arts grant.
According to Pamela Puleo, chief advancement officer, “Our Therapeutic Arts and Holistic Services program offers individuals opportunities to engage in expressive, creative, and diversionary activities to support healing and wellness.” “This helps patients, families, and friends feel at ease and calm during their stay or visit at the Hospital.”
CMPs are trained musicians who give live therapeutic music customized to the needs of patients. They are familiar with a wide range of music that can assist in relieving anxiety, regulating blood pressure, or distracting a person’s mind from physical pain.
