Mountain Plumbing NH, a family-owned business founded by father-son duo Dennis and Michael Irwin, is making waves in the Lakes Region with their unique approach to plumbing services.
The Irwins saw an opportunity to fill a gap in the local market by offering a more professional and customer-focused experience.
“We used our experience from our past to treat contractors and customers in a more professional way,” Dennis Irwin explained. “We provide a much more comfortable experience for our employees and customers because of our background.”
The company, which opened two and a half years ago, has already grown to 18 employees. Dennis and Michael pointed to the positive work environment they’ve cultivated when asked what they’re most proud of.
“I’m most proud of the environment at Mountain Plumbing,” Michael shared. “It’s a great environment. Everybody works together. The guys have a good time, but they’re also challenged in a healthy way.”
Dennis elaborated on this approach: “We challenge mentally. Do you know this? What do you know? How do you know, what you are doing? Do you know why you’re doing it? There’s a point behind it. It’s not to put somebody down. It’s about providing a consistent and great service to our customers and empowering our team.”
This culture of expertise has proven particularly effective with younger employees. Through a connection with Laconia High School’s trade program, Mountain Plumbing has been able to recruit motivated young workers who thrive in their supportive yet challenging environment.
One of the company’s most distinctive policies is its commitment to work-life balance. Unlike many in the industry, Mountain Plumbing maintains strict 8-hour workdays, Monday through Friday, with no on-call or weekend work. Currently, Mountain Plumbing NH is hiring and looking to add talent to its growing team.
“We are unconventional in the fact that we are not on call after hours or on weekends,” Dennis explained. “The guys love it. They’ve got a life. They can plan.”
While this approach might seem limiting, the Irwins believe it leads to happier employees and, ultimately, better service for their customers. It’s part of what sets them apart in a market where demand for skilled plumbers far outstrips supply.
One of Mountain Plumbing’s commercial clients, Zack Hutchinson, of White Tail Builders shared their experience with us.
Hutchinson tells us, “Mountain Plumbing is great. We’ve worked with them on many projects, and they’re our go-to partner. We love working with them.”
Looking to the future, Dennis sees Mountain Plumbing becoming “a treasured addition to the Lakes Region.” With their service-oriented approach and deep local roots (Dennis lives in Gilmanton, while Michael resides in Northfield), they aim to provide a much-needed alternative in the local plumbing market.
As they continue to grow, Mountain Plumbing is currently seeking to hire a licensed plumber to join their team. For those in need of plumbing services or interested in a career opportunity, Mountain Plumbing NH offers a fresh approach rooted in professionalism, work-life balance, and community connection.
