A new statewide scavenger hunt will give New Hampshire residents a chance to test their knowledge, visit historic locations, and compete for prizes while learning more about the state’s role in the American Revolution.
The New Hampshire Historical Society is launching the 603 History Hunt, a month-long interactive challenge created as part of New Hampshire’s participation in the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration in 2026.
Running from July 1 through July 31, the free event encourages participants to complete a variety of history themed challenges tied to New Hampshire’s Revolutionary past.
A Statewide History Adventure
The 603 History Hunt presents players with dozens of challenges that can be completed throughout the state. Some challenges can be done from virtually anywhere in New Hampshire, while others require visits to specific historic sites and locations.
Participants may be asked to answer trivia questions, take photographs, record videos, or complete other activities connected to New Hampshire’s Revolutionary history. Each challenge carries a point value, allowing players to choose how many challenges they want to complete and how many points they want to earn.
Throughout July, participants will be able to track their progress and see how they compare to others on a public leaderboard.
Open to All Ages
Participation in the 603 History Hunt is free and open to the public. Players do not need to be members of the New Hampshire Historical Society to take part.
Participants must be at least 13 years old to play independently, although children under 13 are welcome to participate with an adult. While players compete as individuals, the Historical Society encourages participants to work with family members and friends while completing challenges.
Employees of the New Hampshire Historical Society and their immediate family members may participate but are not eligible for prizes.
How to Participate
The scavenger hunt will be conducted through a free mobile app that will become available when the event begins on July 1.
Those interested in participating can request a reminder email by contacting the New Hampshire Historical Society at education@nhhistory.org and including “603 History Hunt” in the subject line or body of the message.
Prizes Available
The event will feature both participation and competitive prizes.
Participation prizes will be awarded to players who reach certain point milestones during the hunt. Competitive prizes will be awarded to players who earn the highest point totals at various stages of the competition.
Prize details will be announced closer to the start of the event.
Participation prizes must be picked up in person at the New Hampshire Historical Society or during a special celebration following the hunt. They will be available through August 29, 2026.
Ice Cream Social Planned
All participants will be invited to a free ice cream social on Saturday, August 1, at the New Hampshire Historical Society, located at 30 Park Street in Concord.
The event will provide an opportunity for players to celebrate their accomplishments, collect prizes, enjoy ice cream, and explore exhibits at the Historical Society. Additional details will be shared with participants during July.
Designed to Encourage Exploration
According to organizers, the 603 History Hunt was created to celebrate New Hampshire’s Revolutionary heritage while encouraging residents and visitors to discover new places throughout the Granite State.
Organizers also remind participants to follow all laws, avoid private property, and complete challenges fairly and safely. Please treat historical sites with respect. All challenge submissions must be completed during July 2026.
