Downtown Concord will come alive on the evening of August 1 with a vibrant blend of music, art, food, and community engagement as First Friday returns for its August installment, themed “Dog Days of Summer.” Hosted by Intown Concord and the City of Concord, this recurring event invites people to explore the capital city’s cultural and commercial center during extended evening hours.
Taking place on the first Friday of each month, First Friday encourages local businesses to stay open late and activate their storefronts with specials, entertainment, and interactive programming. The August edition builds on that model with a focus on pet-friendly activities, local nonprofits, and warm-weather festivities.

Dog-Focused Programming and Animal Advocacy
The “Dog Days” theme takes center stage through animal-friendly programming in key locations. In Eagle Square, Pope Memorial SPCA will host a table from 5:30 to 7:30 PM with shelter information and an open call for donations. Visitors are encouraged to bring pet supplies to support the shelter’s ongoing needs.
Meanwhile, Phenix Avenue will feature Darbster Rescue, an animal welfare organization that will have adoptable puppies available to meet the public and raise awareness about pet adoption.
Many participating businesses are dog-friendly, with varying policies on indoor access. Many will be offering treats and include water stations. A full list of pet-welcoming establishments is available on the Intown Concord website.
Food Truck Selection
A diverse lineup of food trucks will offer attendees a wide range of food options. The selection includes:
Known for reinventing nostalgic regional staples, this truck features playful takes on classics like the deep-fried peanut butter and fluff sandwich. Also available are burgers, hot dogs, and fries with a unique twist. Their Boston Bowl incorporates barley—a nod to early New England agriculture—served with roasted corn and sweet potatoes.
This comfort food focused vendor specializes in hearty sandwiches, gourmet hot dogs, and fully loaded fries. Their dessert offerings, such as peanut butter bars and sundaes, complement a drink menu that includes smoothies and milkshakes.
A Concord newcomer with a playful aesthetic, this truck offers premium hand-scooped ice cream and a rotating selection of nostalgic treats. Popular flavors include Salty Caramel Truffle, Chocolate Moose Tracks, and Cotton Candy. Treats range from $3 to $7, and the team is known for accommodating special requests when possible.
Music, Art, and Entertainment
The evening will be punctuated by live performances across downtown venues:
City Plaza
Local radio personality DJ Nazzy will host a family-friendly dance party from 5:30 to 8:00 PM.
Bicentennial Square
The Wandering Souls Band will perform from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

An opening celebration will include a rooftop bar (4:00–10:00 PM) and a live set by The Wolff Sisters in the courtyard from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.
Additional cultural venues such as Kimball Jenkins, League of NH Craftsmen, Go Native Gallery, and Concord Makerspace will offer open houses, demonstrations, and gallery hours as part of the evening’s programming.
Free Yoga and Outdoor Film Screening
A community yoga class will take place on the State House Lawn from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, led by Tina Poirer and 2 Home Fitness. The class is open to all levels and participants are encouraged to bring their own mats.
The night concludes with an outdoor screening of The Goonies in Eagle Square, starting at 8:00 PM and presented by Red River Theatres. Attendees are welcome to bring chairs or blankets and enjoy a family-friendly film in an open-air setting.
