Studio Ghibli Fest 2026 continues this August with five celebrated animated films returning to theaters, including several anniversary screenings and a newly remastered presentation of Princess Mononoke.
The remaining lineup begins with Tales from Earthsea on Saturday, August 8, and concludes with the 25th anniversary of Spirited Away in October. Other featured films include Only Yesterday, Castle in the Sky, and Princess Mononoke.
Each film will be presented in both English-dubbed and Japanese-language versions with English subtitles. Screenings will also include special bonus content.
Studio Ghibli is one of the world’s most influential animation studios. Its films are known for imaginative storytelling, detailed animation, and memorable characters. The studio’s work includes popular titles such as My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Ponyo, and Howl’s Moving Castle.
Both Spirited Away and The Boy and the Heron won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Studio Ghibli also received an honorary Palme d’Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
Tales from Earthsea Celebrates 20 Years
Tales from Earthsea follows Lord Archmage Sparrowhawk and Arren, a troubled young prince, as they investigate a mysterious imbalance threatening their world. Crops are disappearing, dragons have returned, and the land of Earthsea is moving toward chaos.
The fantasy film marked Goro Miyazaki’s feature directorial debut and is appearing in Studio Ghibli Fest for the first time. The English-language voice cast includes Timothy Dalton, Willem Dafoe, Cheech Marin, and Mariska Hargitay.

Only Yesterday Returns for Its 35th Anniversary
Directed by Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata, Only Yesterday centers on Taeko, a 27 year old woman who has spent her entire life in Tokyo.
While traveling to visit relatives in the countryside, Taeko begins remembering important moments from her childhood. Her experiences with a young farmer named Toshio lead her to reconsider her choices and the dreams she once had.
The reflective drama moves between Taeko’s past and present while exploring memory, adulthood, and personal fulfillment. Daisy Ridley and Dev Patel provide voices for the film’s English-language version.

Castle in the Sky Marks Its 40th Anniversary
Castle in the Sky follows Pazu, an engineer’s apprentice, and Sheeta, a mysterious girl who floats down from the sky with the help of a glowing pendant.
Together, they search for Laputa, a legendary castle hidden in the clouds. Their journey soon attracts the attention of air pirates, military forces, and government agents who want to control the pendant’s power.
The adventure was the first film officially released by Studio Ghibli following the studio’s founding in 1985.

Princess Mononoke Returns in 4K
A 4K remastered version of Princess Mononoke will arrive in theaters this September.
The film follows Ashitaka, a young warrior who travels west after being inflicted with a deadly curse. He soon becomes caught in a conflict between Lady Eboshi and the people of Iron Town, and San, a young woman raised by wolves.
At the center of the struggle is the future of the forest and the spirits, gods, and animals that call it home.

Spirited Away Closes the Festival
Studio Ghibli Fest 2026 will conclude in October with screenings celebrating the 25th anniversary of Spirited Away.
The Academy Award-winning film follows Chihiro, a young girl whose parents are mysteriously transformed after the family enters an abandoned village. Chihiro finds herself trapped in a spirit world controlled by the sorceress Yubaba.
Forced to work inside a magical bathhouse, Chihiro must find the courage to survive, rescue her parents, and return to the human world.
