NH Liberty Alliance Urges Voters to Turn Out for Sept. 8 Primary, Announces 46 Endorsements
NHLA urges liberty-minded voters to use its researched endorsements as a guide, make a plan to vote and turn out for the September 8 primary.
CONCORD, N.H. – August 31 – The New Hampshire Liberty Alliance (NHLA) has endorsed 46 candidates in contested primary races ahead of New Hampshire’s September 8 State Primary, giving liberty-minded voters a researched guide to the candidates NHLA believes are most likely to defend individual and economic freedom in Concord.
Choosing among candidates in a primary can be difficult, particularly when several candidates make similar promises about taxes, spending and limited government. NHLA’s endorsement process is designed to take much of that guesswork out of the decision.
For current legislators, NHLA can draw on something campaign literature cannot provide: their actual voting records. Through its legislative work and annual Liberty Ratings, NHLA tracks how lawmakers vote on legislation affecting individual rights and economic liberty.
For new candidates, NHLA requires a detailed survey covering their positions on the key individual and economic liberty issues likely to come before the Legislature. Candidates are evaluated on those responses so that even those without a voting record can be measured against the same standards that guide NHLA’s Liberty Ratings.
“A party label doesn’t tell voters how someone will govern,” said Rep. Henry Giasson, NHLA Political Director. “We’ve watched enough legislative sessions to know that what candidates say on the campaign trail and how legislators vote in Concord aren’t always the same thing. We’ve done the work to identify the candidates we believe are most likely to stand by those principles when the difficult votes come.”
This first round of endorsements focuses specifically on candidates facing contested primaries. NHLA expects to announce additional endorsements as its PAC considers candidates for the November General Election.
NHLA is also urging liberty-minded voters to use the endorsements as a guide, make a plan to vote and turn out on September 8.
“There may never be a perfect candidate on your ballot, but opting out doesn’t make the decision disappear. Someone will still be elected,” said Giasson. “Our goal is to make that choice easier. We’ve looked at the records, asked the questions and identified the candidates we believe will do the best job protecting your freedoms. Now we need liberty-minded voters to turn up and vote.”
